All relationships have their ups and downs and go through seasons that are easier and seasons that are harder. Unfortunately, most couples wait on average 5-6 years before seeking help for their relationship. It’s important to know that it is never too late or too early to get help – therapy can be helpful to work through the issues that have built up over years or teach newer couples how to address issues more quickly as they arise to keep the relationship strong.

You can strengthen your relationship with couple therapy designed to foster communication, resolve conflicts, and deepen emotional connection. Our skilled therapists provide a safe space for both partners to explore issues and build a healthier, more fulfilling partnership. Begin your journey together and book a free consultation today! Offering online therapy for couples across Ontario.

At Life In Full Bloom Therapy, we’re here to support you on your mental health journey.

When you pause and think...

Your primary relationship in life has a significant impact on the rest of your life. How your home life feels will affect everything else in your world - from your health to other relationships to finances.

Couples Support

We Provide Online Therapy For Couples In Ontario

Our experienced therapists help you reconnect with the present, prioritize self-care, and achieve a balanced, fulfilling life.

Couples therapy or marriage counseling is when a couple works with the therapist to create the change they want to see in their relationship.

Couples come to therapy for many different reasons, such as difficulty communicating effectively, not understanding each other’s view, differences in values or parenting styles, financial stress and big life changes, such as becoming parents.

Sometimes going through major life events together (health or fertility issues, miscarriages, difficult relationships with in-laws or extended family), can “shake up” a couple and it can be helpful to work with a therapist to re-establish a connection with each other again.

How We Help You

We blend modalities such as EMDR, ACT, DBT, CBT, Mindfulness, and EFT to help you bloom into the best version of yourself.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Do you ever feel like you’re not living the life you truly want?

ACT helps people identify what really matters to them in their lives and commit to living according to those values. By focusing on what truly matters, people can lead more meaningful and fulfilling lives.

DBT helps us understand how to manage our emotions so that we can stay present and focused on what matters to us and move through our emotions. This approach helps us bounce back more quickly when facing tough challenges.

CBT empowers people to notice manage their thoughts so that they work for them, not against them. By recognizing that not all thoughts are facts, people can focus on choosing the thoughts that serve them well.

Mindfulness helps us stay in the present moment, allowing us to find more joy in our daily lives. This practice encourages a deeper connection with the here and now and prioritizing compassion and well-being during moments of overwhelm or anxiety.

EFT helps people understand the origins of their relationship patterns and emotions. By identifying and noticing these cycles, people can work towards healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

EMDR is a structured therapy approach that is different than “talk therapy” approaches. The EMDR therapist guides you to briefly focus on a traumatic or difficult memory while experiencing bilateral brain stimulation through moving your eyes in a specific way. This technique has shown to decrease the vividness and emotional intensity of trauma-related or difficult memories.

Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy For Couples

Typically, your first session will involve lots of questions and dialogue with your therapist to learn more about your relationship and what brought you to therapy. You may discuss things like your history, other important relationships in your life, your communication patterns, your work and home routines and your current challenges and goals for therapy.

The length of therapy can vary depending on the couple and the nature of the issues being worked on. Some people may benefit from just a few sessions, while others may attend therapy for several months or even years. It’s often recommended to start with weekly sessions to gain some momentum on your therapy goals but session frequency can always be adjusted and spaced out based on your schedule and progress. Typically, as things progress towards your goals, you and your therapist will work with you to space your sessions out to bi-weekly or even monthly to see how that feels.

It’s normal to wonder how to handle discomfort with a therapist. If you don’t feel a connection or are uncomfortable for any reason, it’s important to communicate that with your therapist. A good therapist will validate how important your comfort is to make the most progress in therapy and may try switching their approach or even refer you to another professional, if needed.

Therapists are extensively trained to focus on empathy and understanding of diverse perspectives and opinions. As a result, they are typically able to understand and empathize with each partner in their own individual way without needing to “pick a side”. That would be counter-productive to the goals of couple therapy – whether it is improved communication, less conflict or aligning parenting strategies or finances – picking one side would not help in reaching these goals.

Couples often wonder how to measure progress in therapy, but they are often able to tell when things are feeling “better” between them. Signs that your therapy is working may include increased self-awareness and self-reflection in your relationship, less reactivity with each other, improved communication and less conflict, or a sense of resolution or peace around certain issues.

Progress can be gradual but not linear meaning that it’s common to have some setbacks along the way. Learning how to recover from setbacks and repair with each other is a crucial part of therapy, as setbacks are inevitable in life! Discussing your feelings around progress with your therapist can help gauge whether you’re on the right track – they are often able to reflect back to you the changes that they notice happening from their perspective when working with you.

Our couples therapy rate is $190 per session.

Once the session is completed, you will receive an invoice with all the necessary information to submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement. We do not bill the insurance companies directly.

We accept Credit Card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) and e-transfer to the clinic. We recommend adding your credit card information to your client profile for the most seamless process.
