Areas Of Focus
Hello! My name is Karen. I am a Registered Social Worker in the provinces of Ontario and Nova Scotia with 20+ years of experience. I have worked in large hospitals both in Ontario and Nova Scotia. I work with individuals struggling with anxiety and depression, life transitions, grief and bereavement, and relationship issues. My area of passion is supporting individuals with mental health issues/mental illness as well as their families (as family members and caregivers are an integral part of this journey). I have spent many years of my career doing this work from both the inpatient as well as outpatient hospital setting as well as from community settings.
My approach is supportive, compassionate, respectful, and non-judgemental. My goal is to work collaboratively with you – you are the expert of your life and know yourself best! My goal is to guide you and help you overcome your identified areas of concern and the things that might be holding you back from living your most meaningful and fulfilling life.
I work from a client-centred approach and draw from a diverse range of therapeutic methods including Solution Focused and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I am certified in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and The Gottman Method for working with couples.
I understand that reaching out to a therapist, being vulnerable and talking about what’s most difficult for us can be so hard. My goal is always to support you in a warm and compassionate way. I offer virtual sessions and can offer flexibility for appointments in the evenings, as well as weekends.
